Real Madrid Fight Back to Beat Roma 4-3 in Dramatic Champions League Thriller
Real Madrid produced one of the most remarkable comebacks of the UEFA Champions League season, overturning a two-goal deficit to defeat Roma 4-3 at the Stadio Olimpico. Jose Mourinho's side scored three goals in the final seven minutes to seal a dramatic victory after appearing destined for defeat.
Backed by a passionate home crowd, Roma made an energetic start and created several early opportunities. Their pressure paid off in the 20th minute when Marten de Roon fired a powerful effort from outside the box that took a deflection before beating Thibaut Courtois.
Despite struggling to create clear chances, Real Madrid equalized against the run of play through Kylian Mbappe. The French star capitalized on a defensive mistake before finishing confidently to level the score during his landmark 100th UEFA Champions League appearance.
Roma regained control after halftime with Donyell Malen scoring twice in quick succession. His first goal came after an excellent through ball from Rodrigo Mora, while his second was a composed finish following clever play from Matias Soule, giving the Italian side a deserved 3-1 advantage.
Real Madrid looked to be running out of time until substitute Carlos Espi sparked the comeback in the 83rd minute by converting a rebound after Endrick's initial header was saved.
Only two minutes later, Endrick rose highest to head home from an Arda Guler corner, reducing the deficit and completely shifting the momentum in Madrid's favor.
The comeback was completed in the 90th minute when former Roma defender Antonio Rudiger volleyed home from another dangerous delivery, silencing the home supporters and sealing an unforgettable 4-3 victory.
Mbappe Reaches Historic Champions League Milestone
Kylian Mbappe celebrated his 100th UEFA Champions League appearance in memorable fashion by scoring Real Madrid's first goal.
The strike also marked his 500th club goal contribution, with 378 goals and 122 assists, highlighting another incredible milestone in his career.
At 27 years and 298 days, Mbappe also became the youngest player ever to reach 100 European Cup/Champions League appearances, surpassing Lionel Messi's previous record. He also became only the eighth player to score in his 100th match in the competition.
Endrick and Guler Inspire Madrid's Comeback
Although Mbappe reached the headlines with another record, Real Madrid's substitutes transformed the match.
Endrick made an immediate impact by forcing the rebound that led to Carlos Espi's goal before scoring the equalizer himself just minutes later.
Arda Guler also played a decisive role, providing two perfectly delivered corner assists that created Madrid's final two goals and underlined his growing importance to Mourinho's squad.
Real Madrid Show Championship Character
Roma appeared to have complete control for much of the contest, but Real Madrid once again demonstrated their resilience on the European stage.
With three goals in just seven minutes, Los Blancos turned a likely defeat into a memorable victory, maintaining their strong Champions League campaign while reminding Europe why they remain one of the competition's most dangerous teams.
