Real Madrid Defeat Celta Vigo 2-1 as Valverde Scores Late Winner
Agency: Real Madrid secured a dramatic 2-1 victory over Celta Vigo thanks to a late injury-time goal from Federico Valverde, keeping their La Liga title hopes alive.
Real Madrid had an early chance to take the lead at the beginning of the match. Vinícius Júnior advanced on a pass from Trent Alexander-Arnold, but his shot hit the post and bounced back.
However, in the 11th minute, Aurélien Tchouaméni scored to give Real Madrid the lead. He found the net with a powerful strike after receiving a pass from Arda Güler.
Celta Vigo equalized in the 14th minute when Borja Iglesias scored from a pass by Williot Swedberg.
Towards the end of the first half, Real Madrid goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois made a brilliant save to prevent the team from conceding another goal.
Both teams created opportunities in the second half but failed to convert them. In the 87th minute, Real Madrid were lucky as Iago Aspas’ shot hit the post and bounced away.
Finally, in the fourth minute of injury time, Federico Valverde’s strike deflected off Marcos Alonso and went into the net, giving Real Madrid a dramatic win.
With this victory, Real Madrid now have 63 points, sitting just one point behind league leaders Barcelona, although Real Madrid have played one match more
