ICC Cricket World Cup League 2: Nepal Suffer 3-Run Defeat Against Namibia

Nepal suffered a narrow three-run defeat against Namibia in the ICC Cricket World Cup League 2 ODI series currently being played in the Netherlands. The defeat marked Nepal's third consecutive loss in the ongoing series, further weakening their chances of finishing in the top four and securing a place in the ODI World Cup Global Qualifier.

Chasing a target of 212 runs, Nepal scored 208 runs for the loss of six wickets in their allotted 50 overs. Despite a strong effort in the final overs, Nepal fell just three runs short of the target.

Nepal's Batting Effort Falls Just Short

Nepal's innings was led by opener Aasif Sheikh, who scored 45 runs from 89 deliveries. Captain Rohit Paudel contributed 41 runs, while Aarif Sheikh scored 38 and Kushal Bhurtel added 34 runs.

Gulshan Jha remained unbeaten on 19 runs and played a crucial role in the late stages of the innings as Nepal attempted to chase down the target.

Nepal required 40 runs from the final four overs. The team managed five runs in the 47th over and seven in the 48th before scoring 12 runs in the 49th over, leaving them needing 17 runs from the final over.

Namibia captain Gerhard Erasmus took responsibility for bowling the last over. Nepal collected two leg-byes from the first delivery before Aarif took a single from the second ball. Gulshan then struck a boundary from the third delivery, reducing the requirement to 10 runs from three balls.

Gulshan managed two runs from each of the next two deliveries, leaving Nepal needing six runs from the final ball. A wide delivery reduced the requirement to five runs from one ball, but Gulshan could manage only a single, confirming Namibia's three-run victory.

For Namibia, Jack Brassell claimed three wickets, while Ruben Trumpelmann took two. One Nepalese batter was also dismissed through a run-out. Bernard Scholtz delivered an economical spell, conceding only 14 runs in his 10 overs.

Karan KC Takes Five Wickets and Reaches 100 ODI Wickets

Earlier, Namibia scored 211 runs for seven wickets after being asked to bat first.

Jan Frylinck produced an outstanding innings, scoring exactly 100 runs from 149 deliveries. He struck three boundaries before being dismissed through a run-out.

Laurent Steenkamp also made a valuable contribution, scoring 59 runs from 87 balls with four boundaries and one six. The pair formed a crucial 131-run partnership for the second wicket, laying the foundation for Namibia's competitive total.

Nepal's standout performer with the ball was Karan KC, who claimed five wickets in a brilliant bowling performance. He finished with figures of five wickets for 29 runs in 10 overs, including two maiden overs.

The five-wicket haul was Karan's fourth in ODI cricket. He also reached a major personal milestone by becoming only the second Nepalese bowler to take 100 wickets in ODI cricket.

Sompal Kami took the remaining wicket for Nepal.

Nepal's World Cup Qualification Hopes Weaken

The defeat is Nepal's third consecutive loss in the ongoing ODI series in the Netherlands. Having already lost their previous two matches, the latest result has further weakened Nepal's chances of finishing among the top four teams and advancing to the ODI World Cup Global Qualifier.

Despite Karan KC's outstanding five-wicket performance and a determined effort from Nepal's batting unit, the team was unable to complete the chase by the narrowest of margins.

Nepal will now play their final match of the series against the Netherlands on Wednesday, with the team hoping to end the series on a positive note.
