16-Year-Old Student Inisa BK Found Dead in Surkhet Forest; Family Demands Justice
A tragic incident has shocked Surkhet after a 16-year-old student, Inisa BK, was found dead in a forest area near Sahid Park in Birendranagar.
Inisa, who originally belonged to Gurbhakot Municipality-6, had been living in Birendranagar with her mother and younger brother for her studies. She was studying in Grade 11 science at Usha Balbatika School. On Saturday morning, March 7, Inisa left home around 6 am saying she was going to attend tuition classes. She told her mother she would return within one or two hours. However, when she did not return by 9 am, her mother Tila BK became worried and tried calling her. Her phone was switched off. Soon after, Tila received a call from an unknown number informing her that her daughter had been found unconscious inside the forest near Sahid Park.
When the family reached the spot, they found Inisa lying unconscious and injured. She was rushed to the Provincial Hospital in Birendranagar, but doctors declared her dead before treatment could begin. The body has remained at the hospital for five days because the family has refused to take it until strict action is taken against those responsible. The family believes the girl was sexually assaulted and killed.
Doctors said the post-mortem report shows severe injuries that caused heavy bleeding. According to forensic officials, the injuries suggest extremely violent sexual contact, although it is still unclear whether more than one person was involved. Police have detained four suspects in connection with the case. Three of them are minors under the age of 18. Investigators said one suspect told police that the girl started bleeding heavily during sexual contact and later became unconscious. He reportedly called three friends for help afterward.
Police said phone records show that the suspect contacted his friends at around 8:25 am on the day of the incident. Authorities have also sent samples to a forensic laboratory for further investigation. Officials say the final conclusion will be clearer after detailed reports are completed. The victim’s father, Indra Bahadur BK, is currently working in Dubai and was unable to return immediately due to airport closure. The family has filed a complaint against four individuals on charges of rape and murder.
Following the incident, protests have been held in Birendranagar and Kathmandu demanding justice for the victim. Several rights groups and local organisations have also called for a fair and transparent investigation. Karnali Province Chief Minister Yamalal Kandel met the victim’s family and promised a proper investigation and justice. Human rights organisations have strongly condemned the incident and urged authorities to take strict action against those responsible and strengthen safety measures to prevent violence against women and girls.
