MS Dhoni Confirmed to Play Entire IPL 2026 Season for Chennai Super Kings
Veteran Indian cricketer MS Dhoni is set to participate in the full season of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026. The confirmation came from Kasi Viswanathan, CEO of Chennai Super Kings, on Wednesday.
According to Viswanathan, the final decision regarding the role Dhoni will take on during the tournament will be determined by the team’s coaching staff. The 44-year-old has already begun preparing for the upcoming season earlier than usual.
Dhoni arrived in Chennai in early March and has been actively training with his teammates. Prior to joining the squad, he had also been practicing in Ranchi to get ready for the tournament. Earlier, there had been speculation that the legendary player might reduce his playing time this season, especially after Sanju Samson joined the franchise from the Rajasthan Royals.
However, the franchise’s announcement confirming Dhoni’s availability for the entire season has thrilled fans. During the previous IPL campaign, Dhoni stepped in as captain midway through the tournament after regular skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad suffered an injury.
That season proved challenging for Chennai Super Kings, as the team ended at the bottom of the points table for the first time in its history. For IPL 2026, the franchise aims to bounce back and regain its dominance under Gaikwad’s leadership, with Dhoni potentially contributing as a batter, wicketkeeper, or impact player depending on team strategy.
