Punjab Kings Beat Chennai Super Kings by 5 Wickets in High-Scoring IPL 2026 Clash

Punjab Kings (PBKS) continued their impressive start to the Indian Premier League 2026 season with a commanding five-wicket victory over Chennai Super Kings in a high-scoring encounter at the MA Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai.

After winning the toss, PBKS opted to bowl first but faced early pressure as CSK recovered strongly from a quick setback. Despite losing an early wicket, skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad and young sensation Ayush Mhatre built a crucial 96-run partnership, putting Chennai in a strong position.

Mhatre impressed with a शानदार 73 runs off 43 balls, marking one of the top performances by a teenager in IPL history. Gaikwad added 28 runs, while Shivam Dube contributed an unbeaten 45. Sarfaraz Khan provided late fireworks with a quick 32 off just 12 balls, helping CSK post a massive 209/5 in 20 overs.

For PBKS, Vijaykumar Vyshak picked up two key wickets, while Yuzvendra Chahal bowled an economical spell.

In reply, Punjab Kings came out all guns blazing. Young opener Priyansh Arya set the tone with a stunning 39 runs off just 11 balls, smashing boundaries at will and giving PBKS a flying start.

Prabhsimran Singh played a steady knock of 43 runs, while captain Shreyas Iyer anchored the chase with a brilliant 50 off 29 balls. Contributions from Cooper Connolly and others ensured Punjab stayed ahead of the required run rate.

Despite some resistance from CSK bowlers, including Matt Henry and Anshul Kamboj, who took two wickets each, PBKS comfortably chased down the target in 18.4 overs with five wickets in hand.

Priyansh Arya was named Player of the Match for his explosive start, which laid the foundation for Punjab’s victory.

This win marks Punjab Kings’ second consecutive victory in IPL 2026, while Chennai Super Kings remain under pressure after suffering back-to-back defeats in the tournament.
