France Beat Brazil 2-1 with 10 Men as Mbappe and Ekitike Shine
France secured a strong 2-1 victory over Brazil despite being reduced to 10 men, with Kylian Mbappe and Hugo Ekitike scoring crucial goals in an impressive performance. The win highlights France’s growing momentum ahead of the World Cup.
Didier Deschamps’ side showed resilience after Dayot Upamecano was sent off in the second half. Even with a numerical disadvantage for over 40 minutes, France managed to hold their ground and secure the result.
The match began with both teams fielding strong lineups, creating an energetic start. However, clear chances were limited early on, with Brazil’s Raphinha missing the first notable attempt. The breakthrough came in the 32nd minute when Mbappe brilliantly finished over goalkeeper Ederson after connecting with a precise through ball from Ousmane Dembele.
Brazil improved after the break and increased pressure, especially after Upamecano received a red card in the 55th minute following a VAR review for a last-man foul. With the advantage, Brazil pushed forward, but France responded brilliantly. Just 10 minutes later, Michael Olise delivered a perfect pass to Ekitike, who calmly chipped the ball past Ederson to double the lead.
Brazil pulled one back through Bremer, who scored his first international goal during a goalmouth scramble. Late chances fell to Bremer and Vinicius Junior, but neither could convert, allowing France to hold on for the win.
Mbappe’s goal took his international tally to 56 goals, putting him just one behind France’s all-time top scorer Olivier Giroud. He was France’s standout performer, leading the team in shots, attacking touches, and overall impact.
Despite the defeat, Brazil created more chances overall, registering 17 shots compared to France’s 7 and having a higher expected goals (xG). However, poor finishing proved costly, with only a few efforts testing the goalkeeper.
France, on the other hand, showed efficiency and composure under pressure, making the most of their chances and defending strongly despite being a man down.
