Nepal Struggle with the Bat

After winning the toss and opting to bat first, Nepal were bowled out for 122 runs in 20 overs. The Nepali batting lineup found it difficult to build momentum against Thailand’s disciplined bowling attack.

Bindu Rawal was the top scorer for Nepal, anchoring the innings with a 44 off 56 balls, while Samjhana Khadka provided some late acceleration with a brisk 26 runs. However, regular wickets prevented Nepal from posting a more competitive total.

Thailand’s bowling attack was led by Thipatcha Putthawong, who delivered an outstanding spell, finishing with figures of 4 wickets for 25 runs, effectively dismantling Nepal’s middle order.

Thailand Cruise to Comfortable Chase

In response, Thailand chased down the target with ease, reaching 125/2 in just 16.5 overs. Opener Natthakan Chantham played a match-winning knock, remaining unbeaten on 57 runs, showcasing excellent composure and shot selection.

Her performance earned her the Player of the Match award, as Thailand maintained control throughout the chase with minimal pressure.

Group B Standings Update

With this victory, Thailand secure 2 crucial points in Group B, making a strong start to their ICC Women’s T20 World Cup Global Qualifier campaign.

Meanwhile, Nepal begin the tournament without points and will be looking to bounce back in their upcoming matches against Netherlands, Scotland, and Zimbabwe.

The defeat highlights areas for improvement for Nepal, particularly in batting depth and strike rotation, as they aim to stay competitive in the remainder of the tournament.
