7,000+ Online Betting Platforms Shut Down in Nepal
The Nepal government has taken a strong step against illegal online gambling by shutting down more than 7,000 betting-related apps and websites across the country.
This action was carried out by the Nepal Telecommunications Authority (NTA) in collaboration with internet service providers. Authorities were instructed to track down and block all platforms involved in online betting that were operating without legal permission.
According to officials, the crackdown is part of a broader government reform plan aimed at improving governance and controlling unlawful digital activities. Over the past week alone, the NTA received dozens of complaints from the public regarding online betting, prompting swift action.
The decision follows a Cabinet directive that requires such illegal platforms to be shut down within 24 hours. As a result, authorities have already disabled thousands of URLs and mobile applications linked to gambling.
Online betting is strictly prohibited under Nepal’s law. Anyone found involved in such activities can face serious consequences, including confiscation of money, fines, and even imprisonment.
The government has also urged the public to avoid using these platforms and to report any suspicious apps or websites. Officials warn that strict action will continue against those who violate the law.
