Nepal Rastra Bank Announces New Banking Hours and Two-Day Weekend Holiday

Nepal Rastra Bank has introduced new banking hours and a two-day weekend holiday system following the government’s latest decision on public holidays.

Nepal Rastra Bank has officially announced new banking hours and a revised holiday schedule following the government’s recent decision to implement a two-day weekend across the country.

The Cabinet meeting held on Sunday approved Saturday and Sunday as official public holidays. In line with this directive, Nepal Rastra Bank has updated the operating hours for banks and financial institutions nationwide.

According to the central bank’s notice, the new system will come into effect from Tuesday (Chaitra 23). Under this arrangement, banks will remain closed on Saturdays and Sundays, marking a significant shift from the previous single-day weekend system.

Office hours for banks and financial institutions have now been set from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM, Monday through Friday. However, seasonal adjustments have also been introduced. From Kartik 16 to Magh 15, office hours will be slightly reduced, operating from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM.

Similarly, banking transaction hours have been revised. Customers can carry out financial transactions from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM (Monday to Friday) under the new schedule. During the winter period (Kartik 16 to Magh 15), transaction hours will be limited to 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM.

The move is expected to align Nepal’s working schedule with international standards while improving work-life balance for employees in the banking sector. It may also enhance operational efficiency and customer service within financial institutions.

Nepal Rastra Bank has urged all banks and financial institutions to strictly follow the new timing and ensure smooth implementation of the updated schedule.
