Massive Fuel Price Hike in Nepal: Petrol Up Rs 17, Diesel Rs 25
The Nepal Oil Corporation (NOC) has announced a significant increase in fuel prices, impacting petrol, diesel, kerosene, LPG gas, and aviation fuel. The new rates have come into effect immediately, affecting consumers across the country.
According to the decision made by the NOC board of directors, petrol prices have been increased by Rs 17 per liter, while diesel and kerosene have been raised by Rs 25 per liter each. In addition, the price of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) has increased by Rs 100 per cylinder, and domestic aviation fuel has gone up by Rs 6 per liter.
New Fuel Prices in Nepal
Under the revised pricing structure:
-
Petrol in the Kathmandu Valley now costs Rs 219 per liter
-
Diesel and kerosene are priced at Rs 207 per liter
-
LPG gas is now Rs 2010 per cylinder
-
Domestic aviation fuel is priced at Rs 257 per liter
Reason Behind the Price Hike
The corporation stated that the adjustment was necessary due to a continuous rise in international petroleum prices. According to officials, the ongoing geopolitical tensions in the Middle East have significantly impacted global oil supply and pricing.
Despite receiving government support in the form of a 50% exemption on customs duties and infrastructure taxes, the corporation said it was unable to fully absorb the rising costs.
Financial Pressure on NOC
NOC has also revealed that even after the latest price revision, it will continue to face a weekly financial loss estimated at around Rs 10.21 billion. The organization stated that the situation has placed a heavy burden on its operations and sustainability.
Public Advisory
The corporation has urged consumers to use fuel responsibly and adopt energy-saving practices. It emphasized the importance of reducing unnecessary fuel consumption due to ongoing global price instability.
Impact on Daily Life
The sudden rise in fuel prices is expected to affect transportation costs, goods delivery, and overall inflation in the market. Experts believe this could lead to increased pressure on household budgets and business operations.
With fuel prices rising sharply, Nepal’s energy sector is once again under pressure. The latest move by the Nepal Oil Corporation reflects ongoing global energy challenges and their direct impact on the domestic economy.
Authorities are expected to monitor the situation closely as consumers adjust to the new pricing structure.
