PSG Defeat Manchester City 4-2 as Haaland Breaks Club Champions League Record
Paris Saint-Germain produced an impressive display to claim a 4-2 victory over Manchester City in an entertaining UEFA Champions League clash at the Etihad Stadium. The reigning European champions took complete control in the opening half before holding off City's second-half comeback.
The match also marked Pep Guardiola's first return to the Etihad Stadium since leaving Manchester City at the end of last season. Despite the emotional atmosphere, City found themselves overwhelmed by a clinical PSG side that scored three goals within the first 32 minutes.
PSG opened the scoring through Désiré Doué after a swift counterattack before Ousmane Dembélé doubled the advantage just moments later with a close-range header. Vitinha then added a stunning first-time finish from outside the penalty area to hand the visitors a commanding 3-0 lead before halftime.
Manchester City attempted to respond after the break following tactical changes from Enzo Maresca. The substitutions immediately improved City's attacking intensity, and Erling Haaland pulled one goal back with a powerful header early in the second half.
However, PSG quickly restored their three-goal cushion when goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma failed to deal with Maghnes Akliouche's effort, allowing the ball to spin into the net for an unfortunate own goal.
City continued to push forward and created several opportunities. Haaland scored his second goal after finishing a well-worked move, bringing the score to 4-2 and giving the home side renewed hope. The Norwegian striker later came close to completing his hat-trick but was denied by PSG goalkeeper Matvey Safonov.
PSG also missed the chance to extend their advantage after former Manchester City forward Ferran Torres saw his penalty saved late in the game.
Although Manchester City dominated much of the second half and registered 27 shots with numerous chances, the damage caused by PSG's outstanding first-half performance proved impossible to overcome.
Haaland Reaches Another Milestone
Despite the defeat, Erling Haaland reached another remarkable achievement. His first goal saw him surpass Sergio Agüero as Manchester City's all-time leading scorer in the UEFA Champions League.
The Norwegian has now scored 61 Champions League goals in just 60 appearances, including 38 goals for Manchester City in only 41 matches, further cementing his reputation as one of Europe's most prolific forwards.
PSG Continue Strong European Form
Luis Enrique's side once again demonstrated why they are among Europe's strongest teams. Their attacking quality, quick transitions, and clinical finishing in the opening half laid the foundation for another significant Champions League victory.
While Manchester City's improved second-half display offered positives for Enzo Maresca, PSG's early dominance ultimately secured a memorable 4-2 win on a dramatic European night.
