Documents You Can Use to Vote Without a Voter ID Card

Voting without a voter ID card is allowed in the House of Representatives election 2026. Citizens can use citizenship, passport, driving license, National Identity Card (NID), or land ownership certificate as valid documents accepted for voting.

As the House of Representatives election takes place this Thursday, hundreds of thousands of voters have returned to their home villages to cast their ballots.

This general election comes after the recent Gen Z protests held on September 8 and 9, which had a noticeable impact on the country’s political environment. While many citizens have voted before, a significant number of young people will be voting for the first time.

Total Voters Cross 19 Million

The total number of voters in this election has reached 19,005,324. In comparison, the 2022 House of Representatives election had 17,988,570 registered voters.

This means 1,016,754 new voters have been added to the electoral roll this time, pushing the total voter number beyond 19 million. More than one million newly registered voters are expected to vote for the first time in a House of Representatives election.

Voting Without a Voter ID Card

Unlike previous elections, newly registered voters have not been issued voter ID cards. The government has only completed their name registration.

However, voters can still participate in the election even without a voter ID card. To vote without a voter ID card, they must show one of the following valid identification documents:

  • Citizenship Certificate

  • Passport

  • Driving License

  • National Identity Card (NID)

  • Land Ownership Certificate

Officials have confirmed that these documents are accepted for voting without a voter ID card.

Voters are encouraged to carry any of these valid documents to ensure they can cast their vote smoothly and avoid any inconvenience at polling stations.
