Hong Kong Fire Probe Leads to Charges Against Two Firms and Seven Individuals

Seven individuals and two companies have been charged in connection with a deadly residential fire in Hong Kong. Authorities are continuing investigations into alleged negligence, safety violations, and related criminal activity linked to the tragedy.

HONG KONG: Authorities in Hong Kong have formally charged seven individuals and two companies in connection with a catastrophic residential fire that killed 168 people, marking one of the city’s most serious criminal cases in recent history.

The charges stem from a massive blaze that broke out on November 26, 2025, at the Wang Fuk Court housing estate in the Tai Po district. The fire spread rapidly across multiple high-rise buildings under renovation, leading to widespread destruction and heavy loss of life.

According to officials, the accused face a total of 25 charges, including manslaughter, conspiracy to defraud, money laundering, tax evasion, and attempts to obstruct justice. The investigation has linked the defendants to renovation and safety oversight work at the estate.

The two companies charged in the case are Will Power Architects Company and Prestige Construction & Engineering Co., both involved in the renovation project at the site.

Authorities say the seven individuals include company directors and a registered inspector connected to the project, as investigators continue to examine alleged safety violations and negligence that may have contributed to the scale of the disaster. The fire, which engulfed seven residential towers, is considered the deadliest in Hong Kong in decades and has triggered a large-scale investigation involving both police and anti-corruption agencies.

Officials have previously arrested dozens of people as part of the ongoing probe, which focuses on construction practices, fire safety failures, and possible corruption linked to the renovation work.

The case remains under active investigation as authorities work to determine the full chain of responsibility behind the tragedy.
