Curfew Lifted in Sunsari District Following Improvement in Security Situation

The District Administration Office, Sunsari, has lifted the indefinite curfew imposed in parts of the district following a violent clash in Devanaganj Rural Municipality. The curfew was removed from 12:15 PM after the security situation improved, allowing normal movement and public activities to resume in the affected areas.

The curfew imposed in Sunsari district has been lifted following an improvement in the local security situation.

The District Administration Office, Sunsari, issued a notice stating that the indefinite curfew imposed from 9:00 PM on July 27, 2083 BS, has been withdrawn effective from 12:15 PM today.

The curfew had been enforced under Section 6(a) of the Local Administration Act, 2028, restricting movement and prohibiting public gatherings, assemblies, processions, demonstrations, meetings and blockades within the designated areas.

According to Chief District Officer Ishwori Prasad Aryal, the restrictions have now been removed, allowing normal movement and public activities to resume in the affected areas.

Earlier, following a decision by the Central Security Committee, the District Administration Office had imposed restrictions in areas extending 200 metres east of Ghopali Tole along the Mahendra Highway, west of the Koshi Barrage Bridge, and the northern and southern areas of Inaruwa Municipality-3 and Municipality-6.

The curfew was imposed following a violent clash between Hindu and Muslim communities in Kapantaganj of Devanaganj Rural Municipality-3. The incident, which occurred on Sunday night, resulted in the death of 30-year-old Om Prakash Mehta, who sustained a gunshot wound while authorities were attempting to bring the situation under control.

With the curfew now lifted, local authorities are expected to continue monitoring the situation and maintain security to prevent any further unrest. Residents have been urged to remain calm and cooperate with security agencies to ensure peace and stability in the district.
