Nighttime Closure Announced for Araniko Highway Dhulikhel Khawa Section for Road Upgrading

The Dhulikhel–Khawa section of the Araniko Highway will remain closed during nighttime hours for 14 days as authorities begin blacktopping work on the road.

According to Suman Yogesh, the project will take place from Chaitra 7 to Chaitra 20, during which the road will be completely closed at night to facilitate construction activities. The closure will apply daily from 6:00 PM to 5:00 AM, during which all types of vehicles will be prohibited from using the highway section.

Officials have requested motorists to use alternative routes during the restricted hours to avoid inconvenience and ensure smooth traffic management while the construction work is underway.

Despite the nighttime closure, the road will remain open to traffic during the daytime. Authorities said vehicles will be allowed to operate normally outside the restricted hours to minimize disruption for commuters and transport services.

However, heavy vehicles such as tipper trucks and cargo trucks will face stricter restrictions. These vehicles will be banned from using the Dhulikhel – Khawa section throughout the entire 24-hour period during the 14-day construction schedule.

Road authorities say the blacktopping work is part of ongoing efforts to improve road conditions and enhance transportation safety along the Araniko Highway, one of the key routes connecting the Kathmandu Valley with eastern regions and the Nepal–China border trade corridor.

Officials have urged drivers and transport operators to follow the traffic instructions and cooperate with authorities during the construction period. The improvement project is expected to make the highway smoother and safer for long-term travel once the work is completed.
