Nepal Telecom to Phase Out 3G Services, Urges Customers to Upgrade to 4G
Nepal Telecom has announced plans to gradually phase out its 3G services and transition fully to 4G in the near future. The move is aimed at improving service quality and providing faster, more reliable connectivity to its users.
In an official notice issued on Friday, the state-owned telecom provider urged customers still using older SIM cards that support only 2G or 3G networks to upgrade to 4G as soon as possible. The company emphasized that upgrading will ensure access to modern, high-speed mobile services.
To facilitate the transition, Nepal Telecom has started notifying affected users through SMS alerts and system notifications. Customers with outdated SIM cards are encouraged to visit the nearest Nepal Telecom office, where they can receive a 4G SIM card free of cost.
The telecom company has also outlined the requirements for SIM replacement. Customers must carry valid government-issued identification, such as a Citizenship Certificate, National Identity Card, Passport, or Driving License, to complete the process.
Additionally, Nepal Telecom stated that users who already have 4G-compatible SIM cards can easily activate 4G and VoLTE services by dialing *444# from their mobile devices.
The transition marks a significant step in Nepal’s digital infrastructure development, as telecom providers continue to upgrade networks to meet growing demand for faster internet and improved communication services.
