Vote Counting Delayed in Gorkha-1 Due to Bad Weather

Vote counting in Gorkha-1 has been delayed after bad weather prevented helicopters from transporting ballot boxes from several polling centers in Chumnubri Rural Municipality. Counting is now expected to begin Saturday if conditions improve.

Gorkha – Vote counting in Gorkha Constituency-1 has been postponed after authorities failed to collect all ballot boxes from remote polling stations due to bad weather conditions.

According to local officials, ballot boxes from several polling centers in Chumnubri Rural Municipality in northern Gorkha have not yet reached the district headquarters. The rural municipality has 23 polling centers, and the transportation of ballot boxes had begun on Friday using Nepal Army helicopters.

However, unfavorable weather conditions prevented helicopters from completing all flights. Chief District Officer Tulsi Shrestha said that ballot boxes from only nine polling centers have been transported so far, while those from 14 centers are still pending.

“Ballot boxes from nine centers have arrived, but 14 are yet to be transported. Due to poor weather, additional flights could not operate,” Shrestha explained.

He further stated that ballot boxes from polling stations in Namrung, Prok, and Sirdibas are still awaiting transportation. Authorities have kept helicopters on standby, and if weather conditions improve, the remaining ballot boxes will be brought to the district headquarters early on Saturday morning.

Because of the delay in collecting all ballot boxes, vote counting in Gorkha-1 is now expected to begin only after the remaining ballots arrive, most likely on Saturday if weather conditions allow.
