Nepal Parliament Fight: Committee to Investigate Unruly MPs for Chaos | Nepinsights

Speaker Dol Prasad Aryal has formed an investigation committee to take strict action against unruly MPs who broke chairs and microphones during the tense Nepal parliament meeting on Jestha 17. The team has 7 days to submit the report.

Committee Formed to Investigate Unruly MPs in Nepal Parliament

Nepinsights – A special team has been set up to investigate several Members of Parliament (MPs) who started a fight and caused chaos inside the Nepal parliament.

Speaker Dol Prasad Aryal announced the investigation committee and gave them exactly seven days to finish their report.

This decision comes right after the tense Nepal parliament meeting on Jestha 17, 2083 (May 31, 2026). During that meeting, a few lawmakers broke rules, shouted, and disrupted the session. The bad behavior of these unruly MPs was heavily criticized by the Nepali public on social media.

The fight and protests inside the Nepal parliament on Jestha 17, 2083 (May 31, 2026) were triggered by major political tension immediately following a question-and-answer session with Prime Minister Balendra Shah (Balen).

Why did opposition lawmakers protest and fight in the Nepal parliament on Jestha 17?

The key reasons behind the protest and the subsequent physical fight involve three main factors:

1. PM Balen Shah's Controversial Border Remarks

The root of the opposition's anger stems from a highly controversial statement made by Prime Minister Balen Shah regarding the Nepal-India border dispute. Major opposition parties, including the CPN-UML and the Nepali Congress, strongly objected to his remarks, accusing him of mishandling a sensitive national sovereignty issue. They demanded an immediate official apology from the Prime Minister.

2. The Prime Minister's Sudden Exit

During the session, PM Shah answered exactly one question from each political party and then immediately left the meeting hall. His quick departure infuriated opposition lawmakers, who felt the Prime Minister was running away from intense questioning and avoiding accountability on critical country issues.

3. Denial of Speaking Time and Loss of Control

Right after the Prime Minister exited, tension flared as several opposition lawmakers including UML’s Ain Mahar stood up and aggressively demanded time from the Speaker to voice their dissatisfaction. When they were denied or told to maintain restraint, a heated verbal debate instantly spiraled out of control.

Lawmakers from opposing sides began shouting, charging toward the center of the hall, and physically clashing, which led to the breaking of chairs and microphones before Speaker Dol Prasad Aryal could intervene and call for an official probe.

Who is on the Investigation Committee?

According to Speaker Aryal, the new team is led by Prakash Adhikari, the Secretary of the House of Representatives.

"During the parliament meetings on Jestha 17, 2083, some members created huge trouble and acted in a very bad way," Speaker Aryal said. "To fix this issue, we have made an investigation committee led by Secretary Prakash Adhikari to find out exactly what happened."

What happens next?

Once the team gives its report within 7 days, the parliament will take strict action against the guilty MPs. This process will follow Sub-rule 4 of Rule 33 of the House of Representatives Regulations, 2083 (Pratinidhi Sabha Niyamavali). During the chaos, several chairs and microphones inside the hall were also broken.

Why This Matters for Nepal's Parliament

Lately, there has been a lot of anger and tension inside the Nepal parliament over big country issues. This has led to MPs shouting at each other and almost fighting physically.

This new investigation shows that the government is finally taking action against bad political behavior inside the hall. Many Nepali citizens are very angry on Facebook and TikTok about how these elected leaders are acting. Because of this public anger, everyone is watching this investigation closely.

We will find out the exact names of the suspended or accused MPs and how they will be punished next week, as soon as the team led by Secretary Adhikari submits its final report.
